Presidential Ponderings
I am happy to report we had a successful Day at the Capitol on March 2nd in Austin. Polly Harris, Kelli Campion, Robbi Burgess, Roland Barrera, Rick Ott and I, attended the event.
What an amazing experience!! This was my first event of this nature and I was a little apprehensive about face to face visits with the legislators. We had an opportunity to meet with Rep. Todd Hunter, Abel Herrero, Tara Ybarra and Sen. Chuy Hinojosa. We also meet with the staff of Rep. Solomon Ortiz, Jr. It was great to have an open dialogue with regards to insurance bills filed and the future of our great state. Look for an article from Polly Harris detailing or visits and the specific bills we discussed. I want to give a BIG thank you to Roland Barrera, Polly Harris, Eddie Garcia, and Leo Barrera for scheduling our appointments in Austin. Without their assistance, we would not have had a successful day.
Last month, several of our members rolled up their sleeves and donated time to Charlie's Place and the re-model of their new building. I am proud of our members who took time out of their Saturday to join in the good deed of helping others. Nidia Hafer, Public Service Chair, has done an amazing job setting up projects for us to be a part of and we have several new projects scheduled for the coming months. Thank you again to those who participated and I look forward to seeing our members contribute to future projects.
Day of Education is only a month away! We will offer 6 hours of CE, with 3 hours on "Arming Agents for Healthcare Reform" a must see presentation by Dave Racer. We will also have CEs on LTC as well as other topics to be announced soon. Look for more details from Tina Durand, President-Elect.
